video for "Some Kinda Joke":
youtu.be/WMCFLZ1Dc3U

weirdo post-punk laughing its way through a post-pandemic world on the verge of social & environmental collapse, with neon pink synth tones and deranged new wave colliding with improvised absurdism and kitchen-sink mayhem

"the rightful heirs to the apocalyptic world Gary Numan envisioned forty years ago: their fuzzed-out guitars and urgent synth pads fit right into the Tubeway Army diaspora, blasting us with a Cold War cynicism that's devolved over the decades. We also hear the likes of Butthole Surfers, Wire, and Dead Milkmen-- satirical in nature, but coming from a wellspring of deep mourning."
post-punk.com

"the band, with their art blender on grind, cuts up new wave, post punk, industrial, alt rock, and raucous "HEY"s like a collision of Killing Joke / The Rezillos / Bruce Woolly and The Camera Club (or thereabouts). I am totally digging the entire aesthetic so much."
American Pancake

"Arriving right on time for pessimistic New Years celebrations everywhere, Garage of Broken Dreams’ The Hard Way offers a fantastic selection of party jams for the end of the world. Driving, bass-laden post-punk will always conjure up images of smoke machines, strobe lights, and fishnets, but GoBD’s addition of crunchy, Slint-inspired anti-melodies and detuned synths place the listener into this party on a heroic dose of Benadryl. Consider this band the polar opposite of the type of post punk popularized by Molchat Doma, a Belarusian band that makes light of the broken promises and institutional distrust that rose out of the corpse of a supposed socialist utopia. Where Molchat Doma mourns a failed paradise, gazing upon the ashen ruins of a family dream home that had previously been infested with termites, GoBD instead produces transparently dark and fucked up music to inhabit a dark and fucked up time and place. For GoBD, idealism either appears as a cruel joke or fails to appear at all.

Equal parts angsty, dark, flippant, and absurd, the latest from Athens, GA’s Garage of Broken Dreams greets the new year with all the enthusiasm of a blind man being offered the Mona Lisa. Set fire to your resolutions and mainline some new nihilistic nonsense..."
